Got an IRS CP2000, CP2501, CP14, or Foreign Penalty Notice?
Do Not Pay Until a CPA Audits the IRS Math.
Automated IRS notices routinely calculate tax on 100% of gross stock, RSU, crypto, or 1099-K proceeds with $0 cost basis and tack on 20% accuracy penalties. Work directly with Imran Baig, CPA to pull your IRS transcripts, challenge the calculation, and respond before your 30-day statutory window closes.

Every IRS Notice Has a Specific Statutory Playbook.
Never mail a casual letter or sign the "Response Form" agreeing to the IRS balance until a CPA compares your notice against your official IRS Account and Wage & Income Transcripts.
CP2000 & CP2501 (Automated Underreporter)
Triggered when W-2s, 1099-B (RSUs, ESPPs, crypto), 1099-NEC, or 1099-K forms don't match your 1040. We reconstruct missing cost basis on Form 8949 and challenge the 20% IRC § 6662 accuracy penalty.
RSU, ESPP & Crypto 1099-B Basis Traps
E*TRADE, Fidelity, Schwab, and crypto exchanges frequently leave Box 1e (Cost Basis) blank or report $0. The IRS taxes 100% of gross proceeds unless a CPA proves the W-2 income already taxed at vest.
CP14, CP501, CP503 & CP504 Balance Notices
Balance-due demands and intent-to-levy notices. We audit penalty assessments, execute First-Time Abatement (IRM 20.1.1.3.3.2.1) or Reasonable Cause petitions, and halt collection actions.
CP15 & International Penalty Notices (Form 3520 / 5471)
Automatic 25% penalties on foreign gifts/inheritances (Form 3520) or $10,000+ penalties on foreign corporations (Form 5471). We draft detailed Reasonable Cause protests to abate civil penalties.
Form 2848 Transcript Pulls & Account Freeze Check
We pull your masked IRS Record of Account, Tax Return, and Wage & Income transcripts to see every Transaction Code (TC 922, TC 570, TC 420) on your IRS master file before responding.
CP3219A Statutory Notice of Deficiency (90-Day Letter)
If the 30-day CP2000 window was missed, the IRS issues a 90-day Statutory Notice of Deficiency. We submit AUR Reconsideration packages to resolve the assessment before Tax Court deadline expiration.
IRS Notice 30-Day Triage & Overstatement Estimator
Enter your notice type, print date, and primary trigger to calculate how many days remain in your statutory response window and estimate whether the IRS overstated your tax via missing cost basis.
You Never Have to Sit on Hold With the IRS Again.
When you try to resolve a CP2000 or penalty notice yourself, it is easy to accidentally concede an item or miss the specific documentation format the IRS Automated Underreporter unit requires.
As an Illinois Licensed CPA with nationwide practice privileges before the IRS under Circular 230, Imran Baig takes over every step of the correspondence and transcript reconciliation.
IRS Notice & CP2000 Defense FAQs
What is an IRS CP2000 or CP2501 notice, and is it a formal bill?
An IRS CP2000 or CP2501 is not a formal tax bill—it is a proposed adjustment generated by the IRS Automated Underreporter (AUR) computer system when third-party forms (such as Form 1099-B, 1099-K, 1099-NEC, or W-2) do not match the figures reported on your Form 1040. You generally have 30 days from the notice date to contest the proposed tax and penalties before a Statutory Notice of Deficiency is issued.
Why did the IRS say I owe tens of thousands of dollars on RSU or crypto sales?
Brokerages such as E*TRADE, Fidelity, Charles Schwab, and Coinbase frequently report gross sale proceeds to the IRS on Form 1099-B with a $0 or missing cost basis (Box 1e). The IRS computer assumes 100% of your sale proceeds are taxable profit and adds a 20% substantial understatement penalty under IRC § 6662. A CPA resolves this by reconstructing your true vested cost basis on Form 8949 and Schedule D.
Should I file an amended return (Form 1040-X) on my own when I get a CP2000?
Do not mail a standalone Form 1040-X to the normal IRS processing center while an active CP2000 is open—doing so routes your return to a different unit while the AUR unit continues advancing your notice toward a Statutory Notice of Deficiency. All schedules and revisions must be submitted directly to the AUR unit assigned to your notice with proper control numbers.
Can IRS penalties be removed through First-Time Abatement or Reasonable Cause?
Yes. For failure-to-file and failure-to-pay penalties (such as on CP14 notices), taxpayers with a clean 3-year compliance history often qualify for administrative First-Time Abatement (FTA) under IRM 20.1.1.3.3.2.1. For accuracy-related (20%) or international information return penalties (Form 3520 / CP15), we prepare statutory Reasonable Cause legal and factual statements.
